Design Approach
A multitude of ideas arose when attempting to solve the problem at hand. The beginning designs arose from the concept of an industrial scissor jack, basically a bunch of pinned joints that are actuated by a hydraulic cylinder. This concept was deemed the most successful design due to the amount of surface area contact with the vehicle and the lift height that can be achieved with this design.
Challenges during design:
-
Size of Jack
-
Weight
-
Size of Cylinder
-
Lift height
-
Cylinder placement
-
Collapsed height
-
Material strength
-
Cost
